Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon deliver powerful performances and bring immense emotion to this film. From Director Clint Eastwood this is a murder mystery involving three childhood friends dealing with a present tragedy and bringing closure to past events with sacrifices they need to perform today. Penn once again shows what great strength it takes to love and protect the pureness in his life, and w hat the price costs. His performance in this movie is enthralling. I saw this passion and creativity for the first time in the movie Bad Boys 1983 and have been watching Sean Penn since.
Tim Robbins’ talent is riveting as he also brings you into the movie with his character’s timid persona and lets you sympathize with his torment. He takes you with him on his journey of trying to make sense of the fears still chasing him and the haunts that continue to live in his heart. Looking to rescue the small boy inside him that really never grew up.
No longer friends and the investigator handling the case Bacon must solve a murder that will bring forth the same shadows of the past in the end, if only for a moment. For as much as his character has moved away from his childhood stomping grounds there will always be a piece of history in his heart. Kevin Bacon brings a sense of stability and re-connection from past to the present with his performance.
Multiple love stories are seen throughout this movie as only director Clint Eastwood can produce. For the darkness that is in this film, there is the light of love This film won 2 Oscar’s, Penn for Best Actor, Robbins for Best Supporting Actor. Along with another 53 wins and 131 nominations. Clint Eastwood nominated for Best Movie, Best Director.
