Henry Wrinkler is the chosen one for this Claus film and tells us a story of how his character of scrooge similarities become the grumpy old man that everyone hates.  You see his childhood, where he grew up and parts of his young adult life.  Always wondered how meanness got into Scrooge, with this altered version of the historic Christmas Carol Story you get a little glimpse of what it might have been.
This is why I like the story and Henry Wrinkler does a wonderfully in this TV Movie from 1979 and Wrinkler gives us a more realistic character. The directing and screenplay are very well done and is a yearly watch on my Christmas list 🙂

Staying with the theme there are three ghosts of christmas who visit the mean old man and show him the way, and of coarse there is a Timmy 🙂  The era which the story takes place is of a time of early electricity and cars with poor people trying to earn a days pay during a depression.  It introduces “time payments” to the story and we see what scrooge does for a living.

YouTube Interview, Making Of

Ironically, this story was filmed in a small town by my city in Canada. Elora was the location due to the older buildings, community and surrounding landscapes. It does actually look like a very old little city from the 1900’s and can see why it was chosen.  It is very beautiful and quaint town, the  hotel is an Inn & Spa by the river and is one of our historical landmarks.  Drove past it many times as a child while visiting friends, family and flea markets.  One scene was filmed in my city crossing an old single lane bridge that was used regularly on a country road.  I find it interesting to learn where they film movies and this is why, sometimes you find a little gem of information, I drove over that bridge many times 🙂
